Consolidated EU automotive testing services via Intertek acquisition of Tickford

Intertek Group plc, a leading global provider of quality and safety services to the transport sector, has announced it’s acquisition of Tickford Test Technology Limited in the UK, a world leading vehicle engine testing company.

Tickford Test Technology was purchased on 31 December 2012, to complement Intertek’s existing Transport sector testing services in the US and Asia, by providing a European Intertek location to serve the regions automotive innovators.

Once part of the Aston Martin group, Tickford specialise in testing petrol and diesel engines for durability, performance and catalyst effectiveness as well as testing fuels and lubricants for efficiency against Government and industry environmental standards.

Tickford has a prestigious reputation and is recognised across Europe for delivering service driven testing expertise. Located at a 36,000 sq. ft. facility in Milton Keynes, UK, its 57 full-time employees have historically serviced the high performance car industry.

Tickford can trace its roots back to the 1820s, becoming the oldest part of the Intertek Group and bringing the Tickford Motor Bodies legacy of providing specialist services to car-makers including: Alvis, Aston Martin, Austin, Daimler, Hillman, Humber, Invicta, Land Rover, Lagonda, MG and Rolls Royce.

As automotive manufacturers work to improve engine performance, to comply with strengthening EU regulations over CO2 emissions and to ensure their hybrid vehicle investments meet regulatory and market requirements, the need for comprehensive ‘one stop’ testing expertise is growing. With manufacturers seeking to minimise their compliance costs in the light of evolving technology and developing law, consolidating Tickford’s and Intertek’s automotive testing expertise was a step designed to address this need.

Talban Sohi, Products and Automotive Managing Director, UK & Eire commented:

“We are delighted to welcome the Tickford team to Intertek. Europe is home to some of the most prestigious automotive brands in the world, and through Intertek’s ever growing global network of laboratories these manufacturers can save time, money and effort by not having to deal with many testing laboratories. Test programmes can now be organised that cover engine performance, emissions assessment, fuel and lubricant technology, hybrid power systems, materials assessment and telematics at one organisation because of this acquisition.”
